Little more than a reinforced leather vest, the studded leather doublet began as a large piece of leather. From that point it was crafted into a flexible piece of armour covering you from your chest to your thighs, offering defence against minor blows to your front and back. For additional protection iron nails were driven into the leather doublet, thus the name "studded leather doublet".
